It's a great time to join SoCoHo!

It's always a great time to join or renew your membership with Southern Country Houston for the 2008 - 2009 year. Did you know that, because our club is a 501(c)(3) organization, your membership fee is tax deductible?

New members should know that our membership year runs from April 1 through March 31. Because some of our events occur in bars, you must be at least 21 years old to join.

There are many reasons for joining our organization. People who join show a commitment to themselves as well as to Southern Country Houston. When you are a member, you have a vested interest in the growth of our organization. We are limited in how we interact with the community by the size of our membership. The stronger our membership is, the more we can give to the community.

The dance lessons are free and everyone is welcome; however, it seems that our most dedicated dancers are members. We are almost always there, we have committed ourselves to learn to dance, to try to interest other people in dancing, to improve our present level of skill (and have even gone on to compete on a worldwide level).

Dance is a form of performing art. If you have never given yourself the chance to learn, now is a great time to start. Being a good dancer increases your confidence when asking someone to dance. Who knows, it could turn out to be someone you might have otherwise never met if it had not been for time well spent at Southern Country dance class.

This year’s membership carries with it some very interesting benefits for you. We will continuously try to add to these.

By presenting your 2008-2009 membership card, you get:

• free entry to the BRB
• IAGLCWDC name tag (if you need or want one)
• group rates when we travel (when available)
• voting power at Southern Country Houston membership meetings
• eligibility to run for office on Board of Directors
• eligibility to be on committees at the IAGLCWDC conventions. (This might be particularly interesting to those of you who are involved in dance competition, giving you a voice when rules and regulations of the competition are discussed.)
• eligibility to be on SoCoHo’s performance team
