Southern Country Houston (SoCoHo), founded in 1991, is a country western dance organization in southeast Texas. As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we have a great time while we work to support other local charitable organizations through dance workshops, community service, and fundraising activities. Although we exist to provide a comfortable and safe place for GLBT people, we do not discriminate—everyone is welcome.

Southern Country Houston is a leader in community service in the southeast Texas area.

Dance Lessons with Southern Country Houston

We offer free dance lessons on Thursday evening at the Brazos River Bottom Dance Club (The BRB) at 2400 Brazos St in Houston. Join us from 8-10:30PM. You don't need a partner—just a good attitude and leather-soled shoes or boots!

We are dedicated to creating a safe, fun environment where lead and follow roles are not gender-defined.

We usually teach a line dance during the first hour and a couples' dance or dance pattern during the second hour. For the couples' dances, we begin with the basics on the first Thursday of the month: body positioning, frame, basic technique and basic steps. As the month progresses, we add on to the basic steps and by the end of the month, you have a nice dance pattern to bring to the floor the next time you go out to dance.

Southern Country Houston has been a proud member club of the International Association of Gay/Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs (IAGLCWDC) since the Association's inception in 1993. As a full-member club of IAGLCWDC, Southern Country Houston enjoys all rights and privileges granted by the Association, and our members are eligible to participate in all IAGLCWDC activities and committees.
